SUBJECT MATTER & TOPICS

The Little Creek Monastery provides a free, web-based publication with frequent online articles and essays. We are inclusive and non-religious.

The monastery supports and encourages scholarly work, first-hand reports and experiences and informative essays.

Our interest is in supporting work that helps all of us think more clearly, or calls us to positive daily actions that improve or better our own or humanity’s consciousness. This can range from historical observations to philosophical critiques, from psychological insights to research and studies, from the role of small, individual initiatives to larger, citizen-based movements, from the importance of sacred values to the timelessness of universal principles, and also personal experiences.

Our focus is on being an everyday life monk or nun, in the sense that society — at any level — can benefit from more and more people practicing a variety of disciplines to help improve human awareness, consciousness and a more social responsibility. Publication topics include practical insights on the deepening of consciousness, deeper experiences, class warfare, struggles with understanding concepts, related opinion pieces, book/film reviews and scholarly works.

Articles promoting practical approaches to Fairness or to personal experiences and observations in deeper awareness are particularly welcomed. Poetry is allowed by our members and submissions are allowed by practiced poets. Humorous pieces that provide light-hearted perspectives to the deeper issues represented on this site are also welcome.

CONTENT Guidelines

  • Length: Features typically run 1500–5000 words; op-eds 500–1500 words; reviews 300–800 words — but we are open to longer pieces.

  • Pay: We do not pay for articles.

  • Ideas: If you have an article idea, please query first before attempting to write it for us. If you already have a completed piece, just email it to us. We will consider pieces previously published unless prohibited by the publisher.

  • A Good Fit: Before submitting, we recommend you look around our site to get a sense of the kind of content we are interesting in promoting.

  • Obviously biased work clearly favoring one religion or similar close-minded opinion over all others is generally not considered.

  • If a submission fails to abide by our guidelines, it will be removed from consideration.

ARTICLE GUIDELOINES

  • Titles required.

  • A subtitle should immediately follow the title.

  • An image comes next. Please look at the site and strive for a visual effect that is comparable to what we typically post. Main rule: nothing garish. We reserve the right to remove or replace your pictures. We reserve the right to add a picture if you don’t include one. Images must be public domain or created by you. Generally speaking, your image sizes should be high resolution, at least 900px wide by any height.

  • Articles must be in full — no summaries that link to full external articles.

  • You are free to reference other work of your own or others.

  • No blatant self promotion. However, you may plug your company, bio, work or links where they add value to the reader. Please do plugs at the bottom of your work and keep them brief.

The above guidelines keep the site looking consistent. Thanks for your help.

Contributing Writers

Once you submit your work and it is approved for publication, we will categorize your piece (tagging). Publication typically occurs within a week or two. If we like your work and you enjoy working with us, we will consider adding you as a Contributing Writer. In that case we will need a short bio/headshot, as shown here.

We reserve the right to publish your work on this and/or related Little Creek Monastery or Wandering Komusō sites including subscription sites such as Ghost, Substack, Patreon, LCM newsletters, etc. We do not revenue share since contribution/subscription fees are modest and help maintain our sites. The monastery is an entirely volunteer effort. No one draws an income from our work, including any of us. Thank you for considering contributing your writing to Little Creek Monastery.
